LJ Woodard is the Director of the Performance Club! She is a professional Actor (SAG) who has taken all her experience from New York to Los Angeles...and created Wilmington's only studio theater for young actors! LJ teaches all aspects of performance...from improvisation, theater, voice, comedy, scene study and movement. We learn by playing and play by acting in a safe environment - free of judgment - with clear rules that encourage positivity! Whether you love the stage, need to build up self confidence or want to pursue acting professionally...the Performance Club has a class for you...plus Home School Drama! Gail Kelly teaches Musical Theater, Shining Stars and Shakespeare! She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre with a Performance Concentration and a minor in Music from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. She has worked as a theater teacher with City Arts Drama Center, The Community Theater of Greensboro and Win-Win Resolutions. She also studied theater in London where she worked as a production assistant at Wilston's Music Hall alongside the Royal Shakespeare Company. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with LJ and the great kids at the Performance Club Studio! Most recently she co-directed the studio's "Charlie Brown", "Storybook Theater", "Free to Be You and Me" ,"Teen Spirit" and "Pinkalicious" productions with LJ Woodard and even played the part of Dr. Wink!
Matthew Talley teaches Performance Glee and Private Voice Instruction at the Performance Club Studio Theater and most recently played the GRINCH in December! He is a tenor from Elon, North Carolina and is currently earning his Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performane from UNC Wilmington under the instruction of Nancy King. He has performed as a soloist with the UNCW Opera Outreach Project and UNCW Chamber Singers on their 2011 choir tour to Germany and Austria. In addition, Matthew has also starred in both musical theater productions and commercial music projects. Most recently performed at The House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, SC! He has future plans to obtain a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Conducting...as well as start a commercial music career in Nashville.
Denice Hopper teaches Private Voice and Piano. Most recently she was our featured pianist and Musical Director of "The Grinch" and "Charlie Brown the Musical"! She graduated from Belmont University in Nashville, TN with a BA of Music in Performance with an emphasis in Commercial Piano. She has toured the world as a performing artist with the Gaither Homecoming Tour and has played at various Thalian productions like the "Wizard of Oz", "Jekyll and Hide" and Techmojo's "Hairspray" to name a few. She has Music Directed for Thalian Children's Theater production's of "On Broadway", "13" , "A Year with Frog and Toad" and "Little Shop of Horrors!" Her teaching experience includes Sea Sharp Music Academy, Wilmington School of Ballet and as a Kindermusik Educator - where she owned and operated Madison Music Studio before moving to Wilmington!
Ashley Gladden teaches Performance Glee, Jazz, Tap and Theater Dance! She is soprano from Annapolis, Maryland and earned her Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance and Music Education from UNCW under the instruction of Nancy King. She has been a member of the UNCW Opera Outreach Project for the last four years and recently starred as Gretel in UNC-WooP!'s production of Hansel and Gretel. In addition, Ashley has performed as a soloist with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra and with the UNCW Chamber Singers on their 2009 choir tour to Germany and Austria. She is currently earning her masters at Florida State University and has high hopes of being both a music educator and/or performer...hopefully back at the Performance Club Studio Theater someday! She was also our Musical Director and the talented Mrs. Pinkerton in "Pinkalicious"!
Carson Capps is a guest Theater Dance and Voice Teacher during various camps and workshops in the year! Carson was in the hit Broadway show "Wicked" at the Gershwin Theater and in the Los Angeles, Chicago and national touring companies as well.
